THE ROLAND HEMOND SCHOLARSHIP

Roland Hemond is one of the most respected and experienced executives in major league baseball. He has received many awards from the sports’ community including the Major League Executive of the Year award three times. It is said that everyone in baseball has his own “Roland Hemond Story” wherein he made a positive impact upon their lives in very dramatic way. He is the President of the Association of Professional Baseball Players of America. This organization is for all current players, scouts, and others in the game including those who are retired. One of his dreams has been to find a way to assist players in completing their education. He has seen many who could more effectively use their time between practices and the game. The online education opportunities with the University of Phoenix provide the exact venue to enable him to present a program to these players and individuals. Roland established an agreement with the University and the Association where players and family members could attend school at discounts. In addition to discounts, the agreement provides scholarships for deserving individuals.

The Roland Hemond Scholarship will provide full tuition for a student to complete his education at Axia college and earn an Associate’s degree (60 credit hours), or to complete a Bachelor’s degree (upper division study 60 credit hours) or to earn a Master’s degree (nominally 40 hours). The Scholarship Selection Committee will select the recipients based upon their criteria. The scholarship award is for tuition only.
